Latest Income Tax Slabs In India, Indian Economy.

The income tax slabs for a financial year are announced by the finance minister every year in the Union Budget. The income tax slabs and rates announced are applicable for the upcoming financial year. Usually, the finance minister makes an announcement in the month of February (when the budget is announced) and once the law is passed by the parliament, it becomes effective from April of that calendar year. An income tax is a sum that every Indian citizen, whether an individual or a business, is required to pay to the Indian income tax authorities for the fiscal year that begins on April 1 and ends on March 31 of the following year. The rate is determined by the government.

Broadly taxes are divided into two categories:

1. Direct Taxes

2. Indirect Taxes.

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax (or consumption tax) levied in India on the supply of goods and services. It is levied at every step in the production process.

The tax is divided into five slabs — 0 per cent, 5 per cent, 12 per cent, 18 per cent, and 28 per cent.

Although GST is collected by the central government, taxes on petroleum products, alcoholic drinks, electricity are separately collected by the state government.

What is Income Tax:

It is levied on a Hindu Undivided Family or an individual’s net taxable income during a fiscal year that begins on April 1 and ends on March 31 of the following year.
It is calculated using an individual’s or a business’s net taxable income.
The government of India has set certain slab rates, i.e., higher and lower slab rates, for the convenience of its citizens.
The government announced a new regime of income tax which is optional in Union Budget 2020-2021.

Tax Slabs In India:

Indian Income tax levies tax on individual taxpayers on the basis of a slab system. Slab system means different tax rates are prescribed for different ranges of income. It means the tax rates keep increasing with an increase in the income of the taxpayer. This type of taxation enables progressive and fair tax systems in the country. Such income tax slabs tend to undergo a change during every budget. These slab rates are different for different categories of taxpayers. Income tax has classified three categories of “individual “taxpayers such as:

Individuals (aged less than of 60 years) including residents and non-residents
Resident Senior citizens (60 to 80 years of age)
Resident Super senior citizens (aged more than 80 years).

Mahatma Gandhi Death Anniversary, All About Mahatma Gandhi Assassination.

At the age of 78, Mahatma Gandhi was killed on January 30, 1948, in the grounds of Birla House, a sizable palace in the heart of New Delhi that is today known as Gandhi Smriti. Nathuram Vinayak Godse, a right-wing Hindu paramilitary group and member of the Hindu Mahasabha, was his assassin. Nathuram Godse was a Chitpavan Brahmin from Pune, Maharashtra, and a Hindu nationalist. Nathuram Godse believed that during the partition of India the year before, Mahatma Gandhi had been too accommodative to Pakistan.

According to witnesses, Mahatma Gandhi had arrived at the top of the stairs leading to the elevated lawn outside Birla House, where he had been holding multifaith prayer gatherings every evening, sometime after 5 o’clock. Nathuram Godse emerged from the group of people flanking Gandhi’s path as he started to go toward the dais and fired three bullets at point-blank range into Gandhi’s chest and belly. Gandhi collapsed on the floor. Mahatma Gandhi was taken back to his room at Birla House, where a representative later appeared to make the announcement of his passing.

Nathuram Godse was apprehended by crowd participants and turned over to the police. The Mahatma Gandhi murder trial began in May 1948 in Delhi’s famed Red Fort, with Godse as the lead defendant and his accomplice Narayan Apte, as well as six additional people, being considered co-defendants. The trial was completed quickly; this hurry was reportedly caused by Vallabhbhai Patel, the home minister, who wanted “to evade scrutiny for the inability to prevent the assassination.” On November 8, 1949, Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte received a death penalty verdict. Despite Manilal Gandhi and Ramdas Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi’s two sons, pleading for commutation, they were rejected by Jawaharlal Nehru, Vallabhbhai Patel, the deputy prime minister, and Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, the governor-general of India. On November 15, 1949, Nathuram Godse and Apte were executed at the Ambala prison.

Google to launch its AI Chatbot amid ChatGPT’s Growing Popularity.

Google AI Chatbot: Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google declared code red at Google in December to plan the development of Google’s AI chatbot. According to the New York Times, Google has enlisted the assistance of two of its most well-known engineers, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who no longer participate in day-to-day operations at the company. This meeting was scheduled to discuss ways to counter the growing popularity of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and create a Google AI chatbot that is similarly competitive. As leader of the governing party, Hipkins will also become prime minister when Ardern steps down.

Among his biggest challenges during an election year will be convincing voters that his party is managing the economy well. New Zealand’s unemployment rate is relatively low at 3.3%, but inflation is high at 7.2%. New Zealand’s Reserve Bank has hiked the benchmark interest rate to 4.25% as it tries to get inflation under control, and some economists are predicting the country will go into recession this year.

NCERT Launched India’s First National Assessment Regulator “PARAKH”

The National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) has released India’s first national assessment regulator, PARAKH, which will work on setting norms, standards, and guidelines for student assessment and evaluation for all recognized school boards in the country.

The PARAKH regulator aims to set up assessment guidelines for all boards to help remove disparities in the scores of students enrolled with different state boards. PARAKH stands for The Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development. It is established within the education survey division of the NCERT.

PARAKH has been launched as a part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
It has envisaged a standard-setting body to advise school boards regarding the new assessment patterns and the latest research and promote collaboration between them.
PARAKH will work in three major assessment areas including large-scale assessments, school-based assessments, and examination reforms.
It will work on bringing an equivalence in the recognized school boards in India in terms of the academic standards among learners.
PARAKH will closely work with the state directorates of education, state, education boards, and international organizations, working in the area of assessment and evaluation.
Last year in September, NCERT invited expressions of interest (EoI) from international agencies to help in setting up PARAKH.
PARAKH will be responsible for conducting large-scale assessments, including the National Achievement Survey (NAS).
The center will also manage India’s participation in international assessments such as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), and Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS).... Indian scientists make unique discovery on Mars.

Pulses in the Martian magnetosphere cause the solitary waves.
Through wave-particle interactions, these fluctuations regulate other particle activities such as particle energization, plasma loss, and transport.
Mars only has a mild magnetic field from its crustal magnetic sources, in contrast to Earth, which has a strong magnetic field to shield it from the Sun’s ionising solar winds.
As a result, single flows can be produced by the solar winds as they interact with the Martian atmosphere.
Teams had previously been unable to find these waves, despite scientists’ theories that they may be spotted.

In the year 1985, the government had declared the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, January 12, as ‘National Youth Day’. Since then, all the centres of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission have been celebrating the occasion through various programmes.
About Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda, born Narendranath Datta on January 12, 1863, was a disciple of Sri 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramhansa. He went on to become a key figure in the introduction of the Indian darsanas (teachings, practices) of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and was credited with raising interfaith awareness.
Vivekanand was highly regarded as a major force in the contemporary Hindu reform movements in India and contributed to the concept of nationalism in colonial India.
Famous for his famous speech in Parliament of World’s Religions in Chicago, 1893, he focused on channelling the energy of the youth.
As his teachings and practices had a huge influence on the youth, the Government of India in 1984 declared January 12 day as National Youth Day.

Uttarakhand's Joshimath Declared Sinking Zone, Over 60 Families Evacuated

Joshimath has been declared a landslide-subsidence zone and over 60 families living in damaged houses in the sinking town have been evacuated to temporary relief centres, a senior official said on Sunday.

At least 90 more families have to be evacuated. The local administration has set up relief centres at four-five places in the Himalayan town, Garhwal Commissioner Sushil Kumar said.

Meanwhile, Chamoli District Magistrate (DM) Himanshu Khurana went from door to door in the affected area to assess the extent of damage and appealed to people living in houses that have developed cracks to move to the relief centres.

Joshimath has been declared a landslide-subsidence zone. More than 60 families living in uninhabitable houses have been evacuated to temporary relief centres, Kumar told PTI.

Considering the extent of the damage, at least 90 more families will have to be evacuated as soon as possible, he said.

Mr Kumar, who has been camping in Joshimath since Thursday, heads a committee tasked with monitoring the situation on the ground level.

There are a total of 4,500 buildings in Joshimath and 610 of these have developed huge cracks, making them unfit for habitation, he said.

A survey is underway and the number of affected buildings could go up, he added.

Mr Kumar said the affected area, including houses that developed cracks earlier and the ones damaged recently, forms a big arch which could be spread over 1.5 km.

Temporary relief centres have been set up at four-five safe places within Joshimath. Some more buildings, including a few hotels, a gurdwara and two inter-colleges, have been acquired to serve as makeshift shelters that can accommodate around 1,500 people, he said.

"Land subsidence has been going on slowly in Joshimath for quite some time but it has increased over the past week with huge cracks appearing in houses, fields and roads," the Garhwal commissioner said.

"The situation worsened apparently after a water channel beneath the town erupted last week," he said.

The priority at present is evacuating the affected people to safety, he said.

Mr Kumar said long-term measures being explored to deal with the situation range from reconstruction to retrofitting.
