50,000 farmers gather at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan for fresh agitation. What's it for now?

 

The farmers have gathered after the RSS-affiliated farmers’ body, Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), gave the call for a 'Kisan Garjana' rally at the Ramlila Maidan in central Delhi. They have united under a common banner to seek relief measures to improve the condition of farmers.

The rally is a show of strength as the farmers’ union hopes to press the Centre to meet their demands, which include farm debt waiver, remunerative prices for their produce and compensation for damage to crops.

 

DEMANDS RAISED BY BKS

• Profitable prices on all farm produce
• No GST on farm produce
• Increase financial relief provided under the Kisan Samman Nidhi
• GM (genetically modified) mustard seed should not be approved
• Export and import policy should be in the interest of farmers
• 15-year rule under Vehicle Scrappage Policy should not apply to farmer's tractors
