National Librarians Day is celebrated on August 12th in
India to honor the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972),
who is widely regarded as the “Father of Library Science” in India12. Dr. Ranganathan’s contributions to the field of library science,
including his formulation of the Five Laws of Library Science, have had a
profound impact on how libraries are managed and utilized.
